Children & Family Fun
Lets be honest, Alex isn't the best place in the world for kids. The
locals will claim that there are lots of things to do, but they don't understand
children: there's more to fun for kids than just arcades and dodgy zoos.
If you have anything to add to this list please email: TTD @ expats in alex .com
Arcades
- Carre Forre - Good range of arcade
stuff, catering from young to older children. Generally kept in good
condition. Very popular during holidays and Fridays, so best avoided
on those days.
- Green Plaza - Large Arcade area
located towards the back of Green Plaza, near to Alfa Market
- San Stefano - Small arcade area near
food court
- Fantasy Land - Big amusement park for
older kids, out of town close to Carre Forre
Beaches
- Montaza - Dirty, dirty, dirty! And
you have to pay!
- Corniche - Avoid beaches during
holidays, they are too crowded. Generally dirty places and some areas
you have to pay for the privilege of sitting in others peoples rubbish.
Clubs
- Acacia / Country Club - Near Fantasy
Land;
good range of swimming pools, but not always clean. The play area is
extremely unsafe and should be avoided. Glass has been found in the
sand on more than one occasion - you have been warned!
- Laguna - Opposite Carre Forre; clean
play area for children of all ages - well worth the odd weekend for a few
hours out the house.
- Portuguese Club, Mondays - Women's
group gather most Mondays for chat and they have the odd charity event too.
Some younger children attend with mums.
- Smouha Club - Mostly inhabited by
locals and can be very busy. Nothing Special.
- Sporting Club - The lack of English
speaking staff hampers this place. If you can speak Arabic the
restaurants are supposedly good. If you want swimming go to the
country club, otherwise the play area here is very clean and much safer than
that in the Country Club.
Parks & Zoos
- Alexandria Zoological Gardens - If
they're young enough your kids won't realise what an awful place this is.
Keep them on a tight lease, however, as it is possible to get within 'arms torn
off' reaching distance of the Lion's cage and others.
- Africa - A growing reputation for a
decent day out. About 60km out of Alex on the Desert Road
